I grew up in Fredericksburg, and there's no bad season for a wine tour here. Each one just feels different. Here's what to expect, month by month, and how to pick your weekend.
Spring (March to May)
Bluebonnets and wildflowers line the highways in late March and April, the vines leaf out and the patios are at their best. It's also peak season, so book your tour and your lodging early. Our Bubbly suites fill up fast in April.
Early summer (May and June)
Lavender season. Becker Vineyards is famous for its lavender fields, and the whole area smells amazing. Afternoons are getting hot, so a 1 PM pickup and air-conditioned tasting rooms are the way to go.
Late summer (July to August)
Texas harvest starts earlier than most people expect, often in July and August. It's hot, so shaded patios, cold whites and a cooler for your bottles are a must. Weekdays are quieter, and it's a fun time to hear about harvest from the tasting room staff.
Fall (September to November)
Cooler evenings, harvest energy and some of the busiest weekends of the year. Oktoberfest takes over Marktplatz on the first weekend of October, and many wineries celebrate Texas wine all month. If you want an October Saturday, plan well ahead.
Winter (December to February)
Holiday lights on Main Street, the Eisbahn ice rink on Marktplatz, cozy tasting rooms and easier reservations. It's the best value season, and some of our favorite tours happen in January. Just bring a real jacket for cold fronts.

Peak weekends cost a little more
On peak holiday and festival weekends (Thanksgiving, Valentine's, spring break, Wine & Wildflower Journey, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Oktoberfest and Food & Wine Fest), the Classic tour is $125 per guest and a Private van is $1,195. These weekends book up first.
The quiet secret: Sunday through Thursday
Midweek tours mean more time with the tasting room staff, easier reservations and a calmer town. They're also our best rate: the Classic tour is $99 per guest Sunday through Thursday (versus $115 on Fridays and Saturdays), and a Private van is $850 (versus $1,095). If your dates are flexible, choose a weekday.
